'Heritage Matters for Europe' ahead of Culture Compass and MFF 2028-2034 negotiations

The ceremony is part of the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2025, taking place during 12-15 October 2025 in landmark buildings of Brussels, with the motto 'Heritage Matters for Europe'.

According to the organisers: “Holding this year’s European Cultural Heritage Summit in Brussels has a particular significance at a time when the European Commission is about to publish the EU’s very first “Culture Compass for Europe” and when EU Institutions and Member States have started discussing the EU’s next Multiannual Financial Framework Programme”.

This year’s theme focuses on pivotal key values of Europe, starting with peace, democracy and solidarity and reaffirms “the political, societal, economic and environmental relevance of cultural heritage for the future of Europe and its citizens”.

All participants who register here may attend the European Heritage Excellence Day (Sunday 12 October) at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, and a guided visit to the House of European History (Monday 13 October). The Summit’s programme also includes the European Heritage Hub Forum in the Town Hall of Brussels in Grand Place, as “Heritage Matters for Europe’s Cities and Citizens” (Tuesday 14 October). On the last day of the Summit (Wednesday 15 October) the European Heritage Policy Agora will take place at the European Parliament's Zweig Visitor Centre, to discuss “The Europeans: Shared Cultural Roots and Values”, featuring a Europa Nostra Annual Lecture by the renowned historian Orlando Figes and a Dialogue with MEPs.

The Summit is organised by Europa Nostra and co-funded by the European Union, and the Ceremony, jointly organised by Europa Nostra and the European Commission, co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme, and with support from the National Lottery of Belgium.
