The European Cultural Heritage Summit, organized by Europa Nostra and co-funded by the European Union, will be hosted for the first time in Romania, a country recognized for its dedication to preserving and promoting shared cultural heritage.
The 2024 edition will celebrate the remarkable rehabilitation projects of the Saxon Church in Alma Vii, Transylvania, and St. Michael’s Church in Cluj-Napoca, among the 26 winners of the
European Heritage Awards / Europa Nostra Awards. These winners will be honored during the European Heritage Awards Ceremony, set to take place at the iconic Romanian Athenaeum.
Key events at the Summit will include the
European Heritage Excellence Day, where attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with the award winners and learn about the best heritage practices from across Europe. The
European Heritage Policy Agora will bring together heritage professionals, civil society representatives, academic researchers, and policymakers to discuss the concept of quality in heritage preservation, with a focus on addressing the climate crisis and enhancing skills and capacity building.
Additionally, the second
European Heritage Hub Forum, organized by the Europeana Foundation, will focus on the impact of digital transformation on cultural heritage, exploring how advancements in technology, particularly AI, can be harnessed to protect and transmit Europe’s shared heritage to future generations.
The Summit will also feature two partner events: a Round Table Discussion on the expectations of Romanian cultural heritage civil society from public authorities, and a Youth Forum organized by the European Students’ Association for Cultural Heritage (ESACH) in partnership with Europa Nostra.
