This annual gathering provides an opportunity for cultural policymakers, city officials, and funding bodies to engage with artists and understand the needs and challenges in the field of contemporary dance. The event promotes the importance of robust support systems for dance research, strategic frameworks for emerging artists, and policy for sustainable regional and international collaborations.
Building a Stable Platform for Dance Theory and Research
Advocating for a dedicated institute to archive and support dance research, offering a repository for scholars and a protected space for creative processes.
Strategic Framework for Emerging Artists
Addressing the need for structures that support new artists amid changing production and funding models in the international landscape.
Long-Term Policy for Regional and International Collaborations
Promoting institutional support for sustainable international connections to elevate professional standards for producers and curators in the field.
The advocacy event is part of the Choreographic Convention 2024 titled "Bodies in Free Fall" that will run from November 19–23, 2024, across multiple venues in Zagreb. This event, a collaboration between ANTISEZONA and the regional Nomad Dance Academy, is part of the EU-funded Life Long Burning 3 – Futures Lost and Found initiative. Designed to unite a diverse group of local, regional, and international dance professionals, the convention combines rich artistic programming with advocacy for advancing the dance field in Croatia and the wider Balkan region. Highlights include the premiere of the short film Close Encounters of Dance Kind, featuring over 50 Croatian dancers, the exhibition Dancing, Resisting, (Un)Working on Yugoslav and post-Yugoslav dance as cultural and political work, the Transformative Policies for Dance advocacy event, plus a series of performances and interactive workshops.
