About "We Are (For) Civil Society":

In a world where civil society is increasingly under attack, this initiative seeks to empower artivists to advocate for human rights through creative collaboration. The focus is on using the visual arts, although other formats will also be considered. Selected proposals should communicate the importance of civil society and human rights in ways that resonate emotionally and culturally with diverse audiences.

Application Details:

Proposals must be submitted by September 15, 2024. Each selected project will receive up to £4,000 in funding, which can be used for materials, subsistence, or other reasonable costs associated with the project. Successful applicants are expected to produce new work or interventions that align with the theme of this call.

Who is Eligible to Apply?

The initiative is open to artists and activists globally who are interested in creating collaborative works that address the challenges facing civil society and human rights today. The projects should aim to:

- Engage audiences emotionally, moving beyond technical or jargon-laden arguments.
- Reclaim the language of human rights and civil society from illiberal actors.
- Challenge populist and authoritarian narratives.
- Propose proactive responses and imagine alternative futures.
- Move beyond zero-sum understandings of human rights and civil society.
