The 82nd Venice International Film Festival will run on the Lido di Venezia from 27 August to 6 September 2025. High profile premieres and Hollywood stars such as Julia Roberts, George Clooney, Emma Stone and Dwayne Johnson are expected in Venice for Mostra 2025.

The Venice Film Festival 2025 opens doors on the 27th of August and will run on the Lido di Venezia until th 6th of September 2025. The 82nd Venice International Film Festival is organised by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera. This year's Venice international jury main competition is chaired by American director Alexander Payne.
Highlights in the 2025 programme include Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi, Benny Safdie's The Smashing Machine with Dwayne Johnson, Yorgos Lanthimos's Bugonia starring Emma Stone, Noah Baumbach's Jay Kelly with George Clooney and Adam Sandler, and Kathryn Bigelow's political thriller A House of Dynamite.
Out of Compeition higlights include Luca Guadagnino's psychological drama After the Hunt starring Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, and Ayo Edebiri.
The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement this year goes to American actress Kim Novak and to German director and screenwriter Werner Herzog (Aguirre, the Wrath of God, Fitzcarraldo, Nosferatu the Vampyre).
The Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award, dedicated to a personality "who has made a particularly original contribution to the contemporary film industry" goes this year to American artist and director Julian Schnabel (At Eternity's Gate, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Basquiat). The award ceremony will take place right before the screening Out of Competition of his new film, In the Hand of Dante (USA/Italy, 150') with Oscar Isaac, Gal Gadot, Gerard Butler, Al Pacino, John Malkovich, Martin Scorsese, Jason Momoa, Louis Cancelmi, and Franco Nero (on Wednesday September 3rd 2025 in the Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema) at 9:30 pm).
The Campari Passion for Film Award, "to honor the talent, dedication, and bold artistic vision of those who transform passion into a driving creative force" goes to American director Gus Van Sant (Good Will Hunting, My Own Private Idaho, Elephant). The ceremony will take place before the screening Out of Competition of his new film Dead Man’s Wire (USA / 105’), starring Bill Skarsgård, Dacre Montgomery, Colman Domingo, Cary Elwes, Myha'la and Al Pacino (on Tuesday September 2nd in the Sala Grande (Palazzo del Cinema) at 9:30 pm).
Established in 2012, this year's Venice Classics will present the "world premiere screenings of 18 film restorations of masterpieces completed over the past year from film libraries, cultural institution and productions around the world".
Background
The aim of the Festival is "to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue. One section is devoted to enhance the restoration works on classic films as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema". The Festival is officially recognised by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association).
