From April 9th to 13th, the city will host the biannual New European Bauhaus Festival, organized by the European Commission in collaboration with the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The five-day event, with its core activities at Parc du Cinquantenaire and the Arts & History Museum, promises to be a captivating celebration of innovation, creativity, and sustainability.
The theme of this year's festival, "Resources for All," is a reminder of the urgent need to address the challenges of evolving to a carbon-neutral economy while ensuring that no community is left behind.
Through a series of thought-provoking discussions, exhibitions, and interactive experiences, the festival will explore subtopics such as shelter and living environments, land and water management, sustainable fashion, and well-being in the face of the climate crisis.
In 2022, the inaugural festival in Brussels brought together a diverse array of participants, from activists and politicians to public authorities and creative thinkers, providing a platform for policy discussions, participatory formats, and interactions among stakeholders.
This year's festival will host a dedicated FORUM for debates on key themes, a FAIR showcasing live exhibitions of current and future projects, and a FEST on Mont des Arts, where visitors can interact with artists and creative minds from across Europe through art installations, workshops, concerts and talks.
Highlighting the festival's significance is the prestigious New European Bauhaus Prizes 2024 Ceremony, where 20 exceptional projects, designs, and ideas that embody the movement's values of sustainability, inclusivity, and beauty will be awarded.
Creatives Unite has picked 8 projects that showcase the richness, social and cultural significance of projects taking part in the competition aiming to deal with issues of place-making and transformation, memory and future aspirations, social inclusion and scientific-technological innovation with a confident, strong and European perspective.
From turning an old soviet post into a community space based on sustainability to collecting fading stories on the outskirts of the militarized European external borders, and from calling upon the communities of Berlin to think and reclaim an old war debris hill to pushing the frontiers of peace in war-torn Ukraine by building houses with novel techniques, the New European Bauhaus is pushing forward the ideal of Europe
