About the Fab City Awards 2026 Open Call

The Fab City Awards recognize implemented and piloted initiatives that demonstrate how collective action can shape real transitions in cities and regions. The 2026 theme is Collective Action for Regenerative Urban Futures.

What they are looking for

Initiatives that combine design, technology, and civic engagement. That connect scientific knowledge with local know-how. That demonstrate real implementation on the ground and show potential to scale across cities and regions. Projects, platforms, policies, infrastructures, or community-led programs that are already piloted or implemented — and able to share evidence and documentation.

Categories

- Community — initiatives that strengthen participation, organisation and local empowerment.
- Technology — accessible and meaningful distributed technologies with social value.
- Nature — projects focused on conservation, restoration and ecosystem protection.

Prizes and recognition

3 Category winners each receive: Seed funding of €1,000, product support of up to USD 600 in Seed Studio products plus optional technical guidance, potential lab access where the winner is located plus access to Fab Lab Puebla and Litchee Lab for initiatives based in those regions, mentoring sessions with members of the Fab City ecosystem, a feature across Fab City channels, and a free ticket to present at FAB26 in Boston, July 2026.

1 Overall Impact Award — selected by the full jury from all submissions as the project with the strongest systemic integration across all dimensions. The winner receives €1,500 in seed funding and the same network, mentoring, and FABx opportunities listed above.

1 Thomas Duggan Award — a special distinction for Arts and Design, selected by the jury from all submissions.
