Spend summer in Croatia as a curator in residence!

Curator-in-residence programme in Prostor is a new 5-weeks long programme open for international curators, with specific emphasis on emerging and mid-career curators.

The aim of the programme is to contribute to the internationalisation of the local art scene, by provoking it and empowering it at the same time, and bringing different and innovative perspectives.

The residency is organised under the programme line “Deviations” and the curator is invited to respond to this theme. The term can refer to the departure from the established directions in different contexts, but also the relationship between the centre and the periphery. The selected curator will spend 5 weeks in Split, undertaking research and making connections and exchanges with the local community and art scene - through organised networking sessions and studio visits and by participating in public events, with the opportunity to organise an exhibition.

Residency dates: August 12th - September 16th, 2024

During 5 weeks, the selected participant will be able to learn about the local historical and cultural context, get to know the local art scene and its actors. The selected curator will have a dedicated time and space as well as the support during their research. This will be done through a series of study visits, meetings with local stakeholders and cultural actors, but also local community. The curator will present their practice to the public in a form of a presentation/open lecture.The residency will result in an exhibition (visiting curator will invite up to 5 local and/or international artists to produce new or existing artworks), with the allocated budget of 1000 euros (for artist fees and production costs).

Requirements:
- be a legal resident of Creative Europe country (applicants based in Croatia are not eligible)
- be able to commit to the whole duration of the residency
