About the project

The WALC project (Walking Arts and Local Community), funded by Creative Europe, uniting six NGOs, non-profits, and universities from Greece, Spain, France, Portugal, and Belgium, is looking for artists with fresh perspectives on walking arts whose creative journeys offer different views and ideas on walking arts, exploring themes such as ethnography, queer ecologies, ecofeminism, posthumanism, and intersectionality. Artists around the world are invited to present their work on an online event and share their perspectives on the evolution of walking art and local communities.

Presentations will cover three themes:

  1. The Evolution of Walking Art and Local Communities
How do you define "community" in your walking art practice?
    - What new motivations or intentions drive walking art today?
    - How is walking art addressing contemporary issues like climate change, the anthropocene, and what is its role in expanding the definition of community?

  2. Engagement with Local Communities: Tell a Story Through an Object
Do you have an item that tells a story about your walking art practice and connection with a local community?
    - How do objects or memories help you reflect on community engagement?

  3. Intersectionality in Walking Art
Have you used walking art to explore or challenge social, gender, or other stereotypes?
    - How do you ensure your walking art is inclusive and accessible to people with different abilities?
    - Are queer perspectives influencing your walking practice, and if so, how?
    - How does feminism shape your approach to walking art?
