About the Open Call

The Mishkal Project, funded by the European Union and managed by the Goethe-Institut and the British Council in Palestine, is launching a special Open Call for Seed Funding to support innovative, multidisciplinary design projects co-produced by European and Palestinian collaborators where the timeless beauty of Palestinian cultural heritage meets the modern designs of the future. 

This inaugural design week will focus on the deeply rooted Palestinian traditions, empowering emerging and professional designers to reimagine and reinvent the past through innovative and sustainable designs. This unique opportunity is a platform to showcase works that combine authenticity and creativity and emphasizes the Palestinian identity in innovative and impactful ways.   

The selected projects will be part of a cultural event that reflects how spectacular the Palestinian heritage is, showcasing the power of design in shaping the future. Through this transformative open call, we invite you to contribute to the celebration of Palestinian design by merging contemporary creativity with heritage craftsmanship, inspiring future generations, and bridging our rich heritage and future aspirations. 

Mishkal aims to promote art and culture as a means of preserving Palestinian cultural heritage, strengthening cultural identity, and supporting entrepreneurs and creatives in the fields of art and culture throughout Palestine. 

The project welcomes proposals for collaborative projects that:

- Are co-developed by European and Palestinian creatives
- Engage meaningfully with Palestinian tangible or intangible cultural heritage
- Combine disciplines such as design, craft, technology, research, architecture and others,
- Aim for sustainable cultural exchange, mutual learning, and visibility for both partners
- Address social, cultural, or environmental themes with relevance and innovation

Projects may include: Product or furniture design, Fashion, textiles, or jewelry, Architecture and spatial design, Digital design, interactive media, or installations, Graphic design, illustration, or printmaking, Sound-based, sensory, or performance-driven design work

What the project offers

- Seed funding between €7,000 and €9,900
- Mentorship from local and international experts
- Capacity Building: Develop your skills in sustainable design, entrepreneurship, and marketing through workshops and hands-on training.
- Showcasing opportunities during Ramallah Design Week 2026 and through hybrid platforms
- Increased exposure, networking, and future collaboration potential


Eligibility Criteria

- Be co-produced by at least one Palestinian and one European creative partner
- Be original and not previously exhibited or funded
- Be implemented within Palestine (West Bank, Gaza, or Jerusalem)
- Engage with Palestinian cultural heritage
- Demonstrate clear benefit to both partners, including mutual exposure, learning, or revenue generation
- Be feasible within the budget and timeline provided
- Include commitment to the capacity-building program from June 2025 to July 2026
