The three-day visit will see MEPs hold discussions with the Department of Justice, the US Congress, the FBI, as well as think-tanks, non-governmental organisations and media outlets. The delegation will also attend meetings at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
The talks are expected to focus on hybrid threats including cyberattacks, deepfakes, online manipulation, disinformation and election interference — areas that fall within the committee's mandate to strengthen EU resilience against authoritarian actors.
The visit underscores growing transatlantic concern about hybrid warfare tactics. Both the EU and the US face similar challenges from foreign information manipulation and interference, cybercrime and attacks on critical infrastructure.
The delegation aims to explore multilateral approaches to digital policy and the protection of fundamental freedoms in the face of these evolving threats.
In a recent resolution, the European Parliament emphasised the importance of cooperation with Washington in countering hybrid threats, stating that a strong partnership with the US and Canada within NATO remains central to European security architecture.
