Artist Residency in Munich: Antifascist Cultures of the Present

The City of Munich’s Artist-in-Residence program invites applications from professional artists in 13 eligible countries for a three-month residency in Munich, Germany. Taking place from 8 January to 26 March 2026, the residency supports independent artistic research and production around the theme “Antifascist Cultures of the Present.”

What is it about?

The residency is part of a broader initiative by Lothringer 13 Halle and the Goethe-Institut to explore antifascism as a civic responsibility through artistic practice. Residents will develop projects addressing contemporary forms of authoritarianism, nationalism, antisemitism, or racism, contributing to a wider programme of exhibitions, performances, and public discourse.

What to Expect

Three selected artists will live and work at Ebenböckhaus in Munich and be provided with studio space at Lothringer 13 Halle. Artists are expected to pursue independent research and present their project in a public event at Ebenböckhaus, as well as in an exhibition at Lothringer 13 Halle. The residency provides support and mentoring throughout the development process.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must:

- Be professional artists or cultural workers
- The applicant’s primary residence must be in one of the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Ukraine.
- Have experience in one or more artistic disciplines (visual arts, music, literature, film, dance/performance)
- Have not previously completed a residency at Villa Waldberta or Ebenböckhaus
- Be able to communicate in English and/or German

What’s Offered

Each artist will receive:

- A monthly grant of €1,300 (total €3,900 for 3 months)
- Accommodation at Ebenböckhaus free of charge
- A €1,000 production budget for a public event
- Travel reimbursement (up to €350 within Europe)
- Additional production support of up to €1,500
