China to celebrate International Museum Day 2021 with various activities

The year 2021’s International Museum Day is themed on “The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine,” which aims to share ideas on how museums should face and adapt to the multiple challenges during the pandemic and actively explore new directions and models for museum development in the future.

Minister Catherine Martin welcomes the reopening of Ireland’s National Cultural Institutions

Catherine Martin TD, Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, has welcomed the reopening of Ireland’s National Cultural Institutions, along with galleries, museums and libraries across the country. Many of these cultural attractions welcomed their first visitors back following several months of closure due to COVID-19 public health measures.

Italian Museums Open Again: The Big Plan To Restart The Cultural Sector

With the beginning of this week, and after months of closure, Italian museums, theaters and cinemas have reopened their doors in most of the country’s regions. And with a €6.7 billion ($8 billion) plan, Italy’s Minister of Culture Dario Franceschini is now intending to relaunch the entire sector. “Culture will give a great contribution to the country’s recovery,” he announced.


MuseumWeek 2021

#MuseumWeek is the first worldwide cultural festival on social media. For seven days, cultural and public institutions will be invited to show creativity with their smartphones on the occasion of this eighth edition.


Contribute to workshops on digital transitions in the cultural heritage sector

On 20 and 21 April 2021 the project inDICEs is organising two consultation workshops on digital transitions in the cultural heritage sector. Cultural heritage professionals, researchers and the inDICEs community will discuss needs and concerns in relation to digitization, online access, the use and the potential re-use of collections, data needed for developing digital strategies and contents, future research competencies and change management.

NEMO publishes detailed overview of museum reopenings in Europe

NEMO has gathered information about museum reopenings and closures from 31 European countries. The overview lists details about reopenings, political and sector communication as well as hygiene measures. The overview is accompanied by a NEMO statement calling for museums to reopen and get support to stay open.
