Can you envision how a live show can be augmented digitally? How could you allow the audience members to be immersed into the story itself?
This open call invites you to propose creative technological concepts that take live shows to new heights. Your concept can utilize any new technology or a combination of them – adding interactivity, immersion or inspiration in the show in new ways.
Your canvas is a performance that combines circus and opera into a spectacle never seen before. Paint over it with your digital brush and unleash your imagination. Make your magic come alive on stage at a performance that will take place in the FNOB year 2022.
The deadline for entries will close on July 31st, 2021.
Your task is to suggest a concept that augments the live performance in one way or another. For example, it can encourage interaction between the audience and the performances, or take the audience’s breath away by stunning visual or audio effects, like by surrounding the auditorium with a sound experience that will make elephants fly over each seat.
The technological concepts can be immersive, pervasive, multisensory, cross-disciplinary, interactive or game based. The concept can be based on audio, video, graphics, motion capture or volumetric video.
Teams can use XR, AI, mapping, game engines, code or whatever technological tools they wish. Teams are allowed to place new items among the seats or concentrate on the main stage. The only criteria is – the concept should enrich the spectacle in ways not experienced before. Please note that concept ideas that can be realised within the auditorium space, as part of the live show.
Your proposed concept should embrace the spirit of performing arts, music, and most importantly opera and ballet. It can be a work in progress.
It is recommended to build a team to be able to fulfill the project.
The concept of CircOpera 2.0 is a performance mixing opera, circus and immersive technology. The stage performance, premiering in Autumn 2022, will include acts with acrobatics, jugglers, somersaults through the air and multiple opera arias, all coming together as CircOpera 2.0. The first CircOpera performance took place at the FNOB in 2016 and can be seen here.
The orchestra, choir, singers, dancers and circus artists as well as the visual world enriched with immersive technology will work together in creating a joyful, emotion-provoking and exciting performance.
The performance will be suitable for all ages and speakers of all languages.
The performance will take place on FNOB’s main stage in 2022.
