The European Day of Music turns 40

The day is celebrated annually in most cities across Europe with free live music performances in public spaces.

The European Day of Music, also known as Fête de la Musique is celebrated on June 21st every year, and this year, the celebration turns 40. This is a celebration of the power of music to bring people together and promote cultural exchange.  World Music Day focuses on the power of music in our everyday lives and its capacity to unite people of different cultures. 

The event was initiated by the French Minister of Culture, Jack Lang, and the idea was to create a day where musicians could perform for free in public spaces, bringing music to the streets and making it accessible to everyone.  The European Day of Music was first celebrated in Paris in 1982 and has since spread beyond the French borders.   The European Day of Music has since become an international event, celebrated in many cities across Europe and beyond.  The event features diverse music genres, including jazz, classical, rock, and electronic music. It is perhaps the largest music celebration in the world

In Paris, the European Day of Music will be celebrated with a series of free concerts in public spaces throughout the city. The event will feature a diverse range of music genres, including jazz, classical, rock, and electronic music. The concerts will take place in iconic locations such as the  Champs-Élysées, and the Jardin des Tuileries.

In Berlin, the European Day of Music will be celebrated with a massive open-air concert in the heart of the city. The event will take place at the Brandenburg Gate and feature some of the biggest names in the German music industry. The concert will be broadcast live on national television and radio, allowing people from all over the country to join the celebration.

In Madrid, the European Day of Music will be celebrated with a week-long music and dance festival. The event will take place in various venues throughout the city, including the Teatro Real, the Plaza Mayor, and the Retiro Park. The festival will feature a diverse range of music genres, including flamenco, opera, and pop music. The highlight of the event will be a grand finale concert at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, featuring some of Spain's most famous musicians.
