About the training programme

The Artist and the Others Summer Training for Artists 2026 – especially tailored for recently graduated, emerging, and parent artists – is taking place from 21-24 July 2026, in Munich.

The programme provides artists with the professional knowledge, skills and connections needed to navigate the art world. In addition to this, the Summer Training offers a special session and a networking event focused on the importance of Sustainability & Networks in the Arts.

What does this mean?

The life of an artist is inherently shaped by uncertainty — considering both financial instability and fluctuating opportunities. In this context, how can artists cultivate a more sustainable and resilient practice? What skills, knowledge and strategies are essential for navigating and positioning oneself within the art world? How do we actively negotiate our roles and visibility within it? Furthermore, what role does building and maintaining a professional network play in shaping our careers, and how can we continue to expand these connections in meaningful ways?

The intensive 4-day Summer Training offers 15 emerging artists the possibility to take part in workshops, face-to-face meetings and networking opportunities in Munich, from 21-24 July 2025.

What makes this summer training unique?

Unlike other courses, the Summer Training gives participating artists the possibility to receive individual, personalised feedback and advice. In short, the program is tailored for you!

With sessions responding to the needs of artists today, participants will gain concrete knowledge and insights to navigate the complex art world(s), and extend their professional network.

We want to help artists bridge the gap between art education and the professional world by providing specific tools and skills which can be applied again and again. We know that every artistic practice is different and no model fits everyone, but that’s why tailored training and feedback are the key when laying the foundations for a sustainable career.

In the vibrant cultural scene of Munich, there are many opportunities for emerging artists and, thanks to the Summer Training, artists have the chance to meet gallerists, curators, project managers and other experts, as well as other artists, getting to know this art scene in real life.

In this way we foster a powerful artistic community. Long-lasting professional connections and friendships can be crucial for future projects or opportunities.

WHAT ARE THE CORE TOPICS?

All of the topics covered in the programme are greatly lacking in, if not completely absent from, the curricula of art academies. In this 4-day intensive training, with workshops, face-to-face meetings and discussions, you will:

  • Learn how to navigate the artworld(s).
  • Reflect on how to develop a sustainable practice and integrate sustainable strategies in your artistic practice.
  • Connect with other artists, gallerists, curators, and art professionals working in off spaces.
  • Learn how to select residencies, exhibitions and grant applications
  • Build a meaningful portfolio & an effective artist statement.
  • Become part of a supportive, international network.
  • Get individualised feedback & advice.
  • Develop sustainable project proposals.
