About the Conference
The international conference “Commons and Commoning in/for Cultural Production” marks the final event of the GLAMMONS project, a Horizon Europe-funded initiative exploring practices of management, participation, and financial sustainability in small-scale, community-led cultural organisations—particularly GLAMs (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums)—through the theoretical lens of the commons.
Held in Athens at Romantso, the conference brings together researchers and practitioners to critically engage with the challenges and potential of commons-based approaches in the cultural sector. Presentations may explore empirical case studies, theoretical developments, or practical experiences from the field.
What to Expect
The two-day programme will feature six thematic panels, keynote speeches by leading international researchers, and collaborative discussions around commoning practices in cultural production. Presenters will each have 15 minutes to share their contributions. All speakers will be invited to submit a full paper for consideration in an edited volume following the conference. The event is free of charge.
Thematic Panels
You are invited to submit abstracts (max. 300 words) that relate to one or more of the following topics:
- Management and Participatory Practices under Commons (e.g., co-curation, community heritage-making, horizontal governance)
- Networks and Intercommoning (e.g., intersectoral collaborations, solidarity economies)
- Commons-Enabling Infrastructures (e.g., finance, volunteer labour, alternative resources)
- Values and Co-Creation Practices (e.g., collective purpose, value-based assessment)
- Digital Commons and Cultural Accessibility (e.g., open repositories, participatory digital tools)
