The Bautopia event, organised annually by ECHN, this year turns into a culture and creativity festival, taking over a part of the oldest European capital city – Athens – and looking at various notions of sustainability. The first programme details, initial list of speakers and registrations are all now available on the official site.
Through an inspiring and creative programme, BAUTOPIA urges you to explore the sense of control you feel in your life, your capacity to influence your own thoughts and behaviour, and your faith in your ability to handle a wide range of tasks and situations. Definitely a feeling that seems increasingly elusive nowadays, especially for us working in the precarious, somewhat intangible fields such as culture and creativity.
Each BAUTOPIA event is co-hosted by one of ECHN's member hubs. This October, our host will be BIOS in Athens. Under the title CREATIVE AGENCY: Sustaining Culture & Creativity in the Age of Intelligence: creative hub managers, CCSI stakeholders, artists, creative professionals, students and the general audience will explore sustainability not only from the environmental standpoint but also the sustainability of creative professions in the face of multiple crises, the technological challenges posed by the use of AI in creative processes, and the impermanence that many creative professions will be facing in the period ahead of us.
From October 7th to 9th, the centre of Athens will be hosting a wide array of lectures, inspiring talks, participatory sessions, workshops, film screenings, creative tours, exhibitions and music programmes, open to CCSI professionals, artists, makers, students, cultural actors and the general audience.
The new BAUTOPIA website is now live, providing key information about the event, a preliminary schedule, and a list of speakers confirmed thus far. Everyone interested is invited to register for participation and secure their seat at one of the BAUTOPIA conference sessions.
Individual ticketing for the SONOTOPIA music programme will be available from September, while the event will also offer plenty of free programmes open to the general public, which will include exhibitions, cinema screenings and more.
Among the first announced speakers are Vladan Joler, the winner of the Silver Lion at the Biennial of Architecture in Venice in 2025; Henriette Waal, a renowned Dutch designer and author working with sustainable approaches to design; Meta Štular, who is spearheading the Creative Center ROG in Slovenia; game designer and filmmaker Igor Simić; as well as many others, with many more to be announced in the coming weeks. Check out the participants page on the event website, which is being continuously updated.
Mark the dates in your calendar and follow ECHN channels for more information on the programme, while the full agenda will be announced in the first week of September.
