About Mzansi Climate Justice Game Jam 2025
The Mzansi Climate Justice Game Jam invites participants to collaboratively design games that tell climate justice stories. Through a series of workshops, mentorship sessions, and teamwork, 20 selected participants will form cross-continental teams and bring new playable projects to life. Both analogue (card games, board games) and digital games are welcome. No technical coding skills are required, only a willingness to explore, create, and collaborate.
What to Expect
Over the course of four Saturdays in June, participants will work together in a hybrid format (online and on-site) to conceptualize, prototype, refine, and showcase new games. Guided by expert mentors in game design, storytelling, and climate justice, participants will create meaningful projects while building lasting connections with a community of changemakers across two continents. This game jam will give a group of selected participants the platform to make games over one month through four collaborative game-making sessions.

Joining the Game Jam gives you the opportunity to co-create a playable game, receive mentorship from experienced developers and climate experts, and earn a €450 stipend. Participants will also receive a participation certificate, showcase their games during an international closing event, and gain valuable experience in collaborative, impact-driven game development.

Eligibility
- Open to individuals 18+ based in Johannesburg or the Netherlands
- Open to creatives from all backgrounds—artists, designers, researchers, activists, students, and more
- No prior technical or coding skills required (but access to a laptop or device is necessary)
