About the Issue

This edition of Museum International titled “Provenance Research in Museums: Principles, Practices, and Possibilities” (Vol. 77, Nº 307-308) , published in collaboration with Taylor & Francis/Routledge, seeks to expand the understanding of provenance research beyond ownership tracing, emphasizing its role in uncovering collecting histories and historical contexts. Contributions will explore how museums can engage in accountability, truth-telling, and collaborative research with diaspora and descendant communities to reinterpret collections, particularly those tied to colonial histories or ancestral remains.

Themes of Interest

Submissions are welcome on the following topics:

- Theoretical and practical approaches to provenance research
- Collecting histories, colonial contexts, and restitution
- New technologies in provenance research
- Power dynamics and collaborative research with diaspora communities
- Sensitive treatment of ancestral remains and sacred objects
- Community agency in reinterpreting museum collections
- Accountability and transparency in provenance studies
- Emerging roles of provenance researchers in museums

Submission Process

Abstracts: 250–300 words, in English, French, or Spanish
Include: Title, author(s), professional background, and 5 keywords
Send to: publications@icom.museum in a Word document
Deadline: January 20, 2025

Selected proposals will undergo a double-blind peer review process. Authors of accepted abstracts will receive detailed guidelines for full articles and have two months to complete their submissions.

Important Note: Contributions are voluntary. Articles will be published in English, with support for French and Spanish submissions.
