Tech for the Public Good is an online international residency programme for 10 people who want to work together to find answers to some of the biggest challenges faced by citizens around the world. Are you a government employee, scientist, artist, engineer, cultural worker, gamer, researcher, community support worker, technologist, developer, data insight manager, UX designer, producer, programmer, theatre maker or person who wants to do something for society? Then this is the project for you.
No matter your background, this project brings people from around the world together to prototype answers to societies big questions through creativity and technology. Over the course of two months, 10 people will work together through a series of labs, residencies, masterclasses, and workshops. Together you’ll decide which challenge you’d like to tackle, and collaborate on a solution that will be open source (freely available and distributed) and piloted in all participating countries.
The call is open to applicants based in Leeds, the UK, and in the following eligible countries and states: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Georgia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Libya, Malaysia, Malawi, Mauritius, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, Rwanda, Senegal, Serbia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Venezuela, Vietnam, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Each participant will be paid £200 p/day x 10 days - £2000 total. An additional accessibility fund is available to support you through the programme. Access can include interpretation, childcare, support workers, data packages and other support that ensures you can participate in the programme.
Work kicks off mid-October, with prototypes presented in December 2021.
