About the Programme
Touring is vital to the performing arts, yet it contributes to environmental challenges. ITER supports participants in rethinking how art travels, reducing carbon emissions while fostering inclusivity and innovation. This year’s edition is structured around two online seminar series: one for newcomers and one for those already working with sustainable practices. Both tracks culminate in an opportunity to apply for project funding of up to £40,000.
Seminar Tracks
The Beginners Programme is designed for those new to sustainable touring. Through seven sessions held weekly in September and October 2025, participants will explore the impacts of touring, strategies for circularity and value chains, and ways the arts can respond to the climate and justice crisis. Each two-hour session blends presentations with interactive discussions and includes light weekly tasks.
The Advanced Programme is aimed at those with some experience in sustainable touring or prior engagement with ITER. The six core sessions, running biweekly between September and November 2025, delve deeper into leadership, collaboration, action planning, and communication. Participants will undertake independent research and concept development in between sessions.
All sessions are held online and require active engagement. In addition, an in-person knowledge-sharing event will be hosted in Manchester, England in July 2025.
Who Can Apply
ITER welcomes applications from venues, companies, festivals, producers, and individual artists working in dance, music, theatre, or interdisciplinary performing arts. Applicants should be based in England, Denmark, or Norway and demonstrate artistic quality, touring experience, and a desire to contribute to sustainable practice.
There are 30 spaces available in each seminar track.
