Film Residency

The Goethe-Institut Cairo offers three emerging filmmakers from the Germany, Yemen, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, and Syria the opportunity to spend five weeks in the residency space “Weiße Villa” in the neighbourhood of Dokki in Cairo, Egypt. The residency provides a unique possibility to exchange with the Egyptian film scene and to develop film projects further.

Goethe-Film-Week

The Goethe Film Week takes place from September 23 till 30, 2023 and presents a comprehensive program of recently released German and Egyptian films. The residents will have access to the screenings as well as to the workshops, panel discussions and cultural events which will be organised.

El Gouna Film Festival

The 6th edition of El Gouna Film Festival will take place from October 13 till 20, 2023 in El Gouna. As part of the residency the Goethe-Institut organises a trip to El Gouna to visit the film Festival. El Gouna is located at the Red Sear close to Hurghada and around 450km south of Cairo.

Benefits of the Residency

• A comprehensive residency program with a flexible structure that allows for ample time for free exploration, as well as, pre-planned networking and exchange activities.
• Around Trip (Economy) and visa fees (25 USD) are covered.
• Accommodation at our fully equipped residency space.
• A communal work space.
• The use of a studio can be organised on an hourly basis to a limited extent and in coordination with the project management.
• A grant amount of 1.000 EUR.
• Opportunity to attend the Goethe Film Week.
• Opportunity to attend the El Gouna Film Festival.

Date of Residency

The Residency takes place from September 21 till October 28, 2023.
