transmediale, in collaboration with international and local partners, is accepting applications for its 2025 residency programme. The two-month hybrid residencies, taking place remotely and on-site in Berlin between May and July 2025, offer researchers, artists, theorists, practitioners, and activists the opportunity to further develop or explore new projects. The residencies focus on fields such as media studies, digital art, media theory, and technology studies.
Each residency provides a monthly stipend, housing support, and funding for travel and accommodation during the transmediale festival.
Four residency types are available, each with specific eligibility criteria:
1) Digital Art Residency:
This is the third iteration of the Digital Art Residency in cooperation with the
Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia. It will be awarded to two artists.
Who is it for? Two artists working in the field of digital art practices, design, sound, media theory, with
Swiss nationality or a permanent residence in Switzerland who are firmly established in the Swiss cultural scene. Applications are open for visual artists, cultural practitioners, designers, and sound artists. The call is open to all formats, with a focus on research-based practices.
Amount: Each resident will be awarded with an artist fee of € 2,250 per month plus per diem for the month in Berlin, and travel and accommodation for the festival and residency. Applications from duos or collectives are welcome, however the fee remains the same and needs to be split accordingly.

2) transmediale x ARKO Residency:
In collaboration with the
Arts Council Korea, transmediale presents the first edition of the new residency programme. It will be awarded to one person of Korean nationality.
Who is it for? One person of Korean nationality, based in Korea or elsewhere, working in the fields of digital art and moving image practices, design, sound, and media theory.
Amount: The two-month residency will be awarded with an artist fee of € 1,500 per residency month. There are no funds available for travel and housing for the resident. Applications from duos or collectives are welcome, however the fee remains the same and needs to be split accordingly.

3) Vilém Flusser Residency for Artistic Research:
transmediale and
Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK) present the 13th iteration of their collaboration. It will be awarded to one Berlin-based person working in the fields of digital art and moving image practices, design, sound, and media theory.
Who is it for? Applications are open for artists, researchers, practitioners, designers, film makers, and sound artists. The call is open to all formats with a focus on research-based practices.
Amount: The two-month residency will be awarded with an artist fee of € 1,500 per residency month. There are no funds available for travel and housing for the resident. Applications from duos or collectives are welcome, however the fee remains the same and needs to be split accordingly.

4) transmediale x Chile Residency:
transmediale and the
Ministry of the Cultures, Arts and Heritage of Chile and
DIRAC - Division for Cultures, Arts, Heritage and Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile collaborate for the 3rd time for a residency that will be awarded to one Chilean or Chile-based artist.
Who is it for? One
Chilean or Chile based artist working in the fields of art, science, new media, and technology. The call is open to all formats with a focus on research-based practices.
Amount: The two-month residency will be awarded with an artist fee of € 1,500 per residency month, and travel and accommodation support for the festival and residency. Applications from duos or collectives are considered, however the fee remains the same and needs to be split accordingly.
