On the eve of the European Cultural Heritage Summit 2023 in Venice, Europa Nostra is organising the Lecture “Art and Cultural Heritage in Wartime Ukraine” by Europa Nostra’s Vice-President Natalia Moussienko, in partnership with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the Council of Europe Programme Office in Venice. The lecture takes place in the frame of the European Heritage Hub project co-funded by the European Union.

Analysing artistic responses to the war requires understanding historical and cultural contexts. For Ukrainian scholars, it presents a unique challenge as they gather data on their country’s wartime experiences while being emotionally connected to each moment.

Dr. Natalia Moussienko’s lecture will explore how art and cultural heritage in various forms have addressed this critical period in Ukraine’s history. Art has thrived in Ukraine amidst conflict and artists have documented the emotional journey of the war through their works. This artistic response to the war has global significance, resonating across fields like philosophy, art theory, sociology, history, and political science.

The lecture will be introduced by Prof. Tiziana Lippiello, Rector of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and Sneška Quaedvlieg-Mihailović, Secretary General of Europa Nostra. Prof. Monica Calcagno and Prof. Fabrizio Panozzo, both experts in cultural and creative management at the Venice School of Management, will also participate in this important discussion.

Deadline: 25 September 2023
