The New European Bauhaus is an initiative made to connect the European Green Deal with our living spaces and experiences. The concept behind the initiative aims to bring green practices in cities and regional areas with an ambition to achieve climate-neutrality and sustainability.
The New European Bauhaus Prizes 2023 were open to all EU Member States and for the first time the application included the Western Balkans. The Prizes award for exemplary initiatives linking sustainability, aesthetics and inclusiveness - the three complementary values of the New European Bauhaus.
The winners were announced yesterday at the Awards Ceremony which took place within the New European Bauhaus in Regions and Cities Event, in Brussels on the areas of constructing and renovating in a spirit of circularity and carbon neutrality, preserving, and transforming cultural heritage, adapting and transforming buildings for affordable housing solutions, regenerating urban spaces.
The Open Call for proposals made an impressive impact with 99 applications received from 21 Member States. Among the 14 selected projects was the Municipality of Viana do Castelo in Portugal and partners Deão Youth Association; Institute for Research and Tech Development in Construction, Energy, Environment and Sustainability; INOVA+, INNOVATION SERVICES S.A., DINAMO10; Business Association of Viana do Castelo; Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo and three transfer cities.
One of the partners, DINAMO10 is a Creative Hub in Viana do Castelo and member of the European Creative Hubs Network that stepped up the game on innovativeness and the capacity in establishing solid local partnerships.
The Municipality of Viana de Castelo aims to increase the city’s attractiveness towards young talents by triggering its blue innovation potential.
The project will deliver a creative and community lab by transforming the municipal old slaughterhouse building, using energy-efficiency, low carbon and circular solutions in accordance with the principles of The New European Bauhaus. The project's goals are raising the expectations, as it's aiming to create the first building to integrate a digitally controllable rotating pilot division to maximise solar energy harvest.
The New European Bauhaus is ready to fully integrate the core values of sustainability, inclusiveness, and aesthetics into capitals and small cities across Europe.
