--
Farnham World Craft Town is offering a residency, of 4-6 weeks, in Farnham, Surrey, UK during Spring 2027. Farnham is England’s first World Craft Town, and is committed to supporting artists and makers through a series of residencies over the next three years. Each of our artists in residence will be asked to create a piece inspired by Farnham, which will form part of our local craft collection.
The Residency will be based at the Farnham School of Furniture Making, one of the UK’s most respected centres for furniture education, with a long tradition of excellence in hand skills and design. After a structured programme of introductions the artist will be given space to develop their own ideas and start creating a body of work. A collaborative approach, working with local makers and local materials where possible, including interaction with the local community, on social media and with the student body in Farnham, is encouraged.
THE RESIDENCY OFFERS:
- Fully covered travel costs
- Living costs
- Contribution to materials
- Free studio space and accommodation
- An opportunity to exhibit a new body of work created during the residency
Who is it for
The residency is for creatives at all stages of their development and people who want to experiment and innovate. Relevant specialisms within wood and furniture making include: cabinet making, hand-cut joinery, marquetry & inlay, wood turning, wood carving, green woodworking, coopering, and work with sustainable or reclaimed timber. Applications from makers working across all of these disciplines and many more are welcome.
