About the XI Culture and Citizenship Meeting

This edition of the Meeting is framed within the programme “On the Road to MONDIACULT 2025”, part of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development, which will take place in Barcelona from September 29 to October 1, 2025. The Meeting is integrated into the ‘Civic Agora’, a space created to foster professional and citizen dialogue, encourage collaboration among cultural agents, and influence the broader discussions of MONDIACULT.

The call seeks to select independent, national and international cultural projects that reflect on one or more of the three key themes of the Meeting and are capable of engaging audiences through public exhibition and presentation.

What to Expect

Selected projects will be presented in a permanent exhibition and networking space at the CCCB (Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona) during the Meeting. Participants will have access to:

- Dedicated physical space for public exhibition and exchange
- Opportunity for a brief oral presentation in an ad hoc space within the CCCB
- Travel and accommodation coverage for 2–3 nights for one project representative
- Stipends of €375 for participation in the exhibition and €375 for oral presentation (if applicable)
- Selected projects must provide all necessary communication materials and be present at their stands throughout the event.

Themes

1- Cultural rights as an ethical imperative and a condition for sustainable development and a paradigm from which to articulate the protection and promotion of cultural diversity.

2- The debate on the use of AI in culture, from an ethical perspective, taking into account education, gender equity, creativity, cultural and linguistic diversity and citizenship.

3- The presentation of initiatives aimed at the construction and consolidation of a culture of peace, which promote sustainable economic and social development, human rights and gender equality, as well as democratic participation and dialogue, freedom of information, communication and expression.

Eligibility

- Open to individuals, groups, associations, and public/private entities from any country
- Projects may be physical or digital, and can be public, private, or mixed in nature
- Special consideration is given to initiatives led by agents under 35 years old
- Must align with at least one of the three themes

Up to 30 projects will be selected based on thematic alignment, geographical and cultural diversity, and capacity to adapt to the exhibition format.

All submitted projects will become part of a Ministry of Culture database and may be featured on the Culture and Citizenship website and future publications.

About MONDIACULT

MONDIACULT is the world’s biggest cultural policy conference. The 2025 edition brings together thousands of participants to set the global agenda for culture in the years ahead. Our inclusive discussions will revolve around 6 themes and 2 focus areas, representing key challenges and opportunities for the future of culture.

MONDIACULT is also a major advocacy platform. With the conclusion of the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in sight, the 2025 UNESCO Conference is a decisive moment to build a consensus and momentum to establish culture as a ‘stand-alone’ goal within the next United Nations development strategy.

Cultural rights must be guaranteed for all - and upheld by all. This is why UNESCO will ensure the presence of a wide array of participants, from policymakers, the civil society, artists to young people at MONDIACULT 2025. Read more.
