ECA invites researchers to explore the connection between crafts and health

The European Crafts Alliance (ECA) is inviting proposals from qualified consultants or research entities to produce a European study on the relationship between craft practices and health. The report will form the first publication within the CraftsNet research programme, co-funded by the European Union, and aims to generate evidence on how craft activities contribute to mental, emotional, and social wellbeing across Europe.

Context

Crafts remain insufficiently documented at national and European levels, limiting the development of effective policies. Building on previous ECA sectoral studies, this new research will focus on the underexplored connection between crafts and health. The study will examine emerging evidence on how craft engagement supports wellbeing for individuals and communities, identify gaps in data and practice, and propose pathways for recognising crafts within health, social, and cultural policy frameworks. The work will be carried out within the four-year CraftsNet project.
