Westway LAB has announced that applications are now open for artists and music projects wishing to participate in the 2026 edition of artistic residencies and/or city showcases, with the submission deadline ending on October 19, 2025.
The artistic residencies will take place between March 31st and April 7th , at the Candoso Creation Center, and are intended for groups of two to four artists (at least one of Portuguese nationality), who will develop original compositions that will be presented live in the festival program.
Regarding the city showcases, they consist of free entry concerts that will be held on April 11th, in various locations in the historic center of Guimarães.
Westway LAB, co-financed by Creative Europe, will take place between April 8th and 11th, 2026.

Conditions for participation in artistic residencies
- €200 net fee assigned to each selected application (max. 2 artists per application) + travel, meals and accommodation for the entire week; plus PRO registration for the conferences
Conditions for participation in city showcases
- net fee €400 + dinner and accommodation on the night of your showcase (if necessary) for each selected project

ELIGIBILITY
* Artistic residencies take place at the Candoso Creation Center for eight consecutive days, from March 31st to April 7th. Four working groups of two or four artists are created (with at least one artist in each group being Portuguese). Each group will work on original compositions. Artistic residencies held within the Westway LAB context have no theme or script; artists have absolute creative freedom. At the end of the week, each group presents the results of their work live, in a set of up to 30 minutes. Artists may not include music or songs from their projects in these presentations, only the themes worked on during the residency. These live premieres of each project may be recorded on video and audio for later use by the artists.
Who can apply?
Individual artists and musical projects, consisting of a maximum of two members, both national and international, are eligible.
