Institute for Human Sciences offers grants for professionals documenting the war in Ukraine

The Documenting Ukraine program launches the 2025 application cycle. Ukrainian academics, creative professionals and public intellectuals are welcome to apply for one-time 5000 EUR grants for projects documenting the experience of the full-scale Russo-Ukrainian war or providing intellectual or artistic reflections on these events.

Since March 2022, Documenting Ukraine has supported more than 400 projects by Ukrainian filmmakers, scholars, journalists, archivists and librarians, writers and poets, artists and photographers. Aiming to build a transdisciplinary archive, Documenting Ukraine prioritizes elevating Ukrainian intellectual contributions and sharing the nation's wartime experiences with a global audience.

Grants can be received by:

- journalists who continue to cover events in Ukraine
- writers working on texts that, in particular, convey their personal experiences of war
- scientists who conduct or prepare for publication research in various fields on the impact of war on both people and the environment, urban space, the country as a whole, etc.
- public intellectuals who work with both Ukrainian and foreign audiences
- filmmakers and artists working on war-related projects
- translators who work to make relevant texts available to the Ukrainian reader
- archivists working to document the impact of war and other professionals documenting the war.
