Carmen Mateu award supports artistic-educational opera projects for teenage audiences with €40,000 total grant

The fourth edition of the Carmen Mateu Young Artist European Award, Opera and Dance, awarded by the Fundació Castell de Peralada, is open for applications. This year’s edition focuses on artistic-educational opera projects aimed at teenage audiences.
The Carmen Mateu award recognises and supports the next generation of creators working at the intersection of opera and education. The selected project will receive a €40,000 commission for the development and premiere of a new educational opera, set to debut at the Peralada Festival in 2026.
Projects should:
- Use innovative, multidisciplinary approaches
- Address the theme “THE OPERA IS FOR YOU”, aimed at engaging teenage audiences
- Be adaptable to non-traditional performance spaces
- Promote diversity and inclusion within the creative team and audience
The fourth edition of the Carmen Mateu Young Artist European Award, Opera and Dance is awarded by the Fundació Castell de Peralada in collaboration with RESEO, Opera Europa and the European Festivals Association.

ELIGIBLE COUNTRIES
ELIGIBILITY
Artists or collectives of up to 35 years of age, who are of European nationality or have developed their careers in a Council of Europe member state, are eligible to apply. Applications may be submitted individually or in groups (all group members must meet eligibility criteria).
