EBRD awards the literary richness of our diverse regions of operation across three continents
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is pleased to announce the launch of the EBRD Literature Prize 2025. The Prize is awarded to a work of fiction originally published in a language of a country where the Bank invests, translated into English and published for the first time in the past year by a European (including UK) or North American publisher.
Submissions of novels, or collections of short stories by a single author, are invited until 6 December 2024 and will be considered by an independent panel of judges. The winner will be announced at an awards ceremony at the Bank’s headquarters in London on 24 June 2025.

AMOUNT
Prize money of €20,000 will be awarded for the winning book, divided equally between author and translator.
The two other finalists receive prize money of €4,000, again divided equally between authors and translators.

ELIGIBILITY
In order for books to be eligible for the EBRD Literature Prize 2025, the following criteria must be met:
a) The submitted works* must consist of books of literary fiction (novels or collections of short stories by a single author) translated into English and written originally in any language, whether official or minority, of a country where the EBRD currently invests, by an author who is (or has been) a citizen of one of these countries.

b) The works may only be submitted by European (including UK) or North American publishers with a valid ISBN and the price printed in the currency of a European or North American country.
c) The works must not be either self-translated or self-published.
d) Submissions for the EBRD Literature Prize 2025 may only be made for books published in English for the first time between 15 November 2023 and 14 November 2024.
