Artists from Romania and Iceland to collaborate on artworks about sustainable urban living
Art plays a vital role in making climate concepts relatable by blending scientific insights with creative interpretation, encouraging reflection and action. It highlights eco-friendly practices, reimagines sustainable living, and underscores the urgency of addressing climate change.
The call looks for teams of two or more artists from Romania and Iceland working collaboratively to create and deliver artworks or art interventions engaging audiences around the theme of sustainable urban living. The aim is to encourage individuals and communities to envision and embrace a more sustainable way of life through the power of art. We aim to inspire audiences to look at sustainability not as a trend, but a necessity for our collective future.
The call looks for original works, new or already in development, from or combining artistic disciplines such as public arts, visual arts, and performance art, which will be exhibited or publicly presented in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in early 2025.

AMOUNT
- The total budget of the project is 40.000 euros. A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 4 projects will be selected, depending on the size of the applicant teams.
- Teams can apply for a total sum of up to 10.000 (for tandems of one artist from Romania and one artist from Icenad) and up to 20.000 (for teams including at least 2 artists from Romania and 2 artists from Iceland).
-The budget covers all costs for the development and presentation in Cluj-Napoca of the artworks, including: artist fees, production costs
withholding tax on artist fees. The percentage may vary depending on the Applicant/Participant`s citizenship / financial residence. Maximum percentage is 16% withholding tax on artist fees.

- Accommodation costs
- Artwork transport if necessary
- Any other specific costs incurred for the production, implementation and presentation of the selected works.

- Participation is open to artists living in Romania in collaboration with artists living in Iceland, without other restrictions regarding formal training, gender, age, ethnicity, etc.
- Prior artistic experience is required and needs to be proven by a portfolio of previous works of all.
- Participation is open to tandems of artists formed by at least one artist with the practice in Romania and one artist with the practice in Iceland, OR two artists with the practice in Romania and two artists with the practice in Iceland. Additionaly, applicant groups may include non-artist members such as scientists, urban planners etc. in a supportive role.
