IJ4EU | Freelancer Support Scheme

IJ4EU supports freelance journalists
IJ4EU’s Freelancer Support Scheme provides up to €20,000 grants to cross-border teams of journalists made up predominantly of freelancers and who can benefit from an extra layer of tailored support, along with training, mentoring and networking opportunities. The scheme is designed to support journalists operating outside of newsroom structures who may be underserved by other journalism support schemes and who are willing and able to collaborate with others to launch investigations of importance to audiences at a local, national, regional or European level.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
October 28, 2024

There will be three calls for applications during the 2024/25 funding round, opening on the following dates:

First call: February 1, 2024
Second call: September 2, 2024
Third call: January 13, 2025
The deadline for applications will be eight weeks from the launch of each call.

Austria - Belgium - Bulgaria - Croatia - Cyprus - Czech Republic - Denmark - Estonia - Finland - France - Germany - Greece - Hungary - Ireland, Republic of (EIRE) - Italy - Latvia - Lithuania - Luxembourg - Malta - Netherlands - Poland - Portugal - Romania - Slovakia - Slovenia - Spain - Sweden - Ukraine

ELIGIBILITY
Applications must be submitted by teams with journalists based in at least two European countries that have signed up to the full cross-sectoral strand of the European Union’s Creative Europe Programme, which provides core funding for IJ4EU.

Eligible countries include all 27 EU member states and the following non-EU countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Ukraine.

Eligibility is based on residency, not nationality.

Projects must focus on topics of cross-border relevance. Investigations on all subjects will be considered. 

The Freelancer Support Scheme is designed for teams whose members operate predominantly outside of newsroom structures. In addition to money, it offers an extra cushion of tailored assistance through mentoring and training.
