Art in times of Coronavirus

A project called Žalike2030 was created as an artistic response to the current COVID-19-crisis, out of which an Art Manifesto arose.

Reinforcing solidarity and the sense of Europe as a shared public space through the virtual community work, the project participants (5 female artists from Austria and Slovenia) have taken the opportunity to sustain people-to-people interaction beyond European borders during these times of travel restrictions and social distancing, in order to maintain cultural life and social experiences and prepare the ground for a cultural revival after the crisis. The participants aimed to develop new approaches for the cultural and art work and build new alliances across sectors to deal with the current challenges imposed by the crisis.

By imagining the future within a virtual space, in their C-19-ArtManifesto the female artists are also creating opportunities for financial progress of professionals in the sector through political initiatives by signing petitions and delivering evidence based on data and suggestions, mainly focusing on female actors as a more existentially threatened group regarding employment conditions, career opportunities and equal payment.
