Academy in Exile | AiR programme

Academy in Exile is pleased to announce its 2021–22 artist in residence programme with three fellowships of three months each for a filmmaker/videographer, sound artist, and visual artist to work on the theme of ‘Fixing What’s Broken’.

Deadline: 21 November 2021

Academy in Exile invites applications for the three-month residency fellowships in Berlin. The programme is open to cultural producers who advocate on behalf of human rights, democracy, and the pursuit of free expression and/or who have been displaced because of their professional work.

Barring delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic, fellowships may start as early as December 2021. The monthly stipend amounts to 2500 EUR. Academy in Exile is unable to provide studio space or supplemental funding for materials. Artists in residence will, however, have access to shared offices at FU Berlin, Campus Lankwitz. Artists in residence are requested to make available work produced as a result of the fellowship for exhibition and/or publication in print, online, and on the Academy in Exile website.

The residency is open to applicants from within Europe, as well as from overseas. Since it is primarily intended for displaced cultural producers, preference will be given to those with at-risk status.
